www.mygayhouston.com

Houston's mygayhouston web-site promoting the city as LGBT friendly

If you haven’t been to this web-site go.

I know, it sounds like a bold statement, but I want to explain why you should go visit this site; I think it is marketing genius!

The Houston Convention & Visitor’s Bureau has been working on this project for a few months; and approximately 2 weeks ago published the site.  The purpose and objective for this campaign is to promote Houston as a Gay friendly destination.  It’s not something most people immediately think of, when discussing Houston, but VP of Marketing (and GLBT Ally) Holly Clapham-Rosenow thought otherwise.

Holly brought together her incredible marketing team; and invited members of the GLBT community to meet at the CVB offices to discuss this project; with the key objective  how do we  market the city as a gay friendly destination for visitors, and convention goer’s/organizers - while all the time focusing on the diverse cultures and backgrounds that exist in the GLBT community.  Many brainstormings session took place, and continues to be an on-going discussion at City Hall.

The site went live in a very short period of time; with a lot of rich content.  One of the brilliant aspects of the site, is the ‘profiles’ section where members of Houston’s GLBT community were invited to express their own opinions of the city; it makes the site ‘real’.  Visitors to the site will also learn lots of interesting facts about Houston – including:

“Twenty-two Houston hotels have become Travel Alternatives Group (TAG) Approved® by agreeing not to discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation in their employment practices, to actively outreach to the gay and lesbian community and to strive to create a gay-friendly experience for their guests. Houston has three times more TAG Approved® hotels than any other Texas city.”

Future meetings are planned to expand on the content.

Another interesting fact; while most people don’t think of Texas as a GLBT friendly state, Houston CVB is one of only a handful of CVB organizations throughout the US that fully supports, and finances a web-site/program such as this.

Congratulations to Holly and her team at the Houston CVB!
