Gays In The Military Lead To 8,000 Deaths!

In what can only be described as pure insanity, retired General John Sheehan, former NATO commander,  attributed the deaths of 8,000 Muslim men and boys massacred in Srebrenica in 1995, in part,  to the Dutch allowing gays to serve in the military.

“The battalion was understrength, poorly led, and the Serbs came into town, handcuffed the soldiers to the telephone poles, marched the Muslims off and executed them,” said General Sheehan in testimony before the Senate Armed Services Committee.

“And did the Dutch leaders tell you it was because there were gay soldiers there?” asked Senator Carl Levin (D-MI).

“They included that as part of the problem,” Sheehan said.

Dutch officials were understandably displeased, and the BBC reports the Dutch Defense Ministry saying  “It is astonishing that a man of his stature can utter such complete nonsense”.

I suppose we should consider ourselves lucky the good General is now retired, and now has much less influence over military affairs.  We can hope the Senate isn’t swayed by his homophobia and illogical testimony.

You know, it’s a bit amazing, really.  These old goats are basically saying the United States military, the best in the world, who will face down any enemy, fight any battle, endure any hardship, can’t handle  the idea of a few queers in the ranks! It just terrifies them to no end.  Get real, General…   nobody’s after your booty!

Check out The Rachel Maddow Show’s segment about the General and his testimony.
